HKIA Secures Triple Air Cargo Honors, Reinforcing Its Lead in Digital Freight Innovation

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), the world's busiest cargo airport, has added three major industry honors to its record. At the 13th Payload Asia Awards in Singapore, the airport was named "Global Airport of the Year" and "Air Cargo Technology Provider of the Year." Air Cargo News separately named it "Cargo Hub of the Year" at its awards in London.

The Payload Asia recognition marks the fourth consecutive year that HKIA has been honored for its technology. That record points to a sustained investment in digital tools that shape how cargo moves through one of the world's most important freight gateways.

An expert panel and online voting selected this year's Payload Asia Awards. The awards honor outstanding progress in the industry's use of digital technology to advance sustainability and efficiency, two priorities that now define competitiveness across global air logistics.

The airport's Hong Kong Import and Export Trade Declaration (TDEC) Application earned particular recognition for facilitating digital transformation. The app shares cargo data through a common digital platform, which minimizes repetitive data entry when trade declarations are made.

For freight forwarders, that change has real-world impact. Fewer manual inputs mean fewer opportunities for error, less duplicated administrative work, and a more streamlined path from documentation to declaration. The result is a more integrated experience for the wider air cargo community. Forwarders benefit from simpler processes, and shippers and importers gain greater confidence that the paperwork behind their goods is handled efficiently.

Digital documentation is no longer a back-office detail. It measures how quickly and reliably a hub can move trade.

HKIA's success extended beyond Asia. Air Cargo News named the airport "Cargo Hub of the Year" at its awards in London, a title HKIA regained after last winning it in 2024.

The award honored achievements ranging from innovative solutions to investments in new technology. An independent expert panel selected winners after a rigorous judging process, adding further weight to HKIA's standing among its international peers.

Steven Yiu Siu-chung, Chief Operating Officer of the Airport Authority Hong Kong, said the authority was delighted to receive global recognition for the airport's cargo performance.

He added that the authority will redouble its efforts to enhance the airport's cargo capabilities and efficiency through continuous innovation and technology. The goal, he said, is to maintain HKIA's leading position in a highly competitive market.

The honors arrive as HKIA operates with greater capacity than at any point in its history. With the three-runway system now in operation, the authority will continue to strengthen HKIA's position as Asia's hub and the world's busiest cargo airport. It expects that growth to add impetus to the economic development of Hong Kong and the wider region.

Taken together, the three awards reflect more than a successful year. They signal a deliberate strategy to pair physical expansion with digital transformation, positioning HKIA not just to handle more cargo but to handle it smarter.
