China still tops in east coast South America trade

China led containerised trade with Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay in 2025, reports Miami's Datamar News.
Brazil's exports to China fell 3.9 per cent to 497,615 TEU, while shipments to the United States dropped 12.1 per cent. India rose to fourth place with a 28.6 per cent increase. Imports into Brazil from China grew 6.2 per cent to 1.74 million TEU, while volumes from the United States declined 5.3 per cent.
Argentina's exports to China rose 22.3 per cent to 106,206 TEU, while shipments to the United States fell 5.2 per cent. Imports from China surged 114.1 per cent to 409,406 TEU, with Brazil and the United States ranking second and third.
Paraguay and Uruguay also saw China as their top export destination, with volumes up 4.7 per cent to 37,406 TEU. Exports to the United States grew 10.4 per cent, while Vietnam rose 3.8 per cent. Imports from China increased 13.8 per cent, followed by gains from the United States and Turkey.
Overall, containerized exports from Brazil totalled 3.25 million TEU in 2025, up two per cent year on year. Imports reached 3.52 million TEU, a 4.4 per cent rise. Argentina's exports grew 10.6 per cent to 538,320 TEU, while imports surged 57.5 per cent to 779,381 TEU. Paraguay and Uruguay exports rose 5.6 per cent to 225,951 TEU.
