US to probe impact of revoking China's trade status

The US's permanent normal trade status over six years, a move that would likely raise tariffs on Chinese imports, Reuters reports.
The USITC, which handles trade competitiveness and anti-dumping cases, said its study will focus on US trade, production and prices in industries most exposed to higher non-MFN tariff rates on Chinese goods.
President Trump ordered trade officials in January 2025 to assess proposals to revoke Permanent Normal Trade Relations with China. PNTR was granted in 2000, enabling China to join the World Trade Organisation and expand into the world's largest manufacturer.
