Air France KLM Cargo has warned of delays and cancellations at Amsterdam Schiphol due to heavy snow, reports London's Air Cargo News.

The Franco-Dutch airline group said restrictions were imposed on certain cargo types to mitigate the impact. Reduced free sales apply to flights departing Amsterdam, with no acceptance of special products such as live animals and temperature-controlled shipments.

Sister carrier Martinair confirmed freighter flights are subject to schedule changes and delays. The airline group said deteriorating winter weather has severely affected flight and ground operations, with forecasts indicating conditions will persist.

Partner airline Delta Cargo also implemented import restrictions on specialised products including Fresh, Pharma, Live, Safe, Care and Express Critical shipments. The restrictions are expected to remain in place through 11 January, subject to operational conditions.

The wintry weather caused thousands of cancellations. KLM has deployed larger aircraft on some routes to carry stranded passengers. The carrier said around 300,000 travellers have been unable to continue journeys as planned and reported a shortage of de-icer.
