    China leads East Coast South America trade flows

    China remained the dominant trading partner for Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay in containerised cargo between January and November 2025, reports San Diego's Datamar News.


    Brazil's containerised exports were led by China, though volumes fell 5.8 per cent year on year. The United States ranked second with an 11.2 per cent decline, followed by Mexico, where shipments dropped 5.2 per cent.

    On the import side, China topped Brazil's ranking with volumes up 6.3 per cent compared with 2024. The United States was second, down 2.2 per cent, while Germany's inbound volumes rose 1.5 per cent.

    Argentina's exports were also led by China, which posted a 22.5 per cent increase. The United States followed with a 5.9 per cent decline, while shipments to Brazil rose 2.4 per cent.

    China dominated Argentina's imports, surging 120.8 per cent year on year. Brazil ranked second with an 11.1 per cent increase, while the United States posted a 12.5 per cent rise.

    In Paraguay and Uruguay combined, China led exports with volumes up 1.8 per cent. The United States followed with an 8.7 per cent increase, while Vietnam ranked third, up 4.3 per cent.

    Imports into Paraguay and Uruguay were also led by China, rising 13.4 per cent year on year. The United States ranked second with a 7.7 per cent increase, while Turkey posted a 15.4 per cent rise.
