Australian regulators order WiseTech to divest

WiseTech Global has been directed by Australian regulators to sell an Oceania-based customs and forwarding software business acquired during its US$2.1 billion takeover of E2open in 2025, reports London's S&P Global.

The unit, Expedient, was first acquired by BluJay Solutions in 2020 before BluJay itself was taken over by E2open in 2021. WiseTech inherited Expedient through its purchase of E2open.

Freight forwarders in Australia argued to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) that WiseTech's ownership of Expedient gave it excessive market share. WiseTech's flagship CargoWise One is already the most widely used forwarding software globally.

The ACCC said Expedient must be sold to a buyer capable of running it as a viable competitor. Approval of the sale is pending. ACCC chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb said WiseTech's acquisition removed competition between CargoWise and Expedient, reducing customer choice.

Ms Cass-Gottlieb added that users of logistics software raised concerns during the investigation, warning the deal could lead to higher prices or lower quality services. The regulator concluded WiseTech already holds substantial market power in the sector.

WiseTech's strategy of aggregating core customs compliance software providers across regions has been central to its rise as the world's largest forwarding software supplier.
