Honda to extend China plant shutdown

Honda Motor will keep three car plants in China closed for two more weeks due to a semiconductor shortage, highlighting ongoing supply chain strains, reported Reuters.
The factories, operated with Guangzhou Automobile Group, had been set to restart this week but will now resume on January 19, the company said.
The disruption stems from delayed chip shipments from Nexperia, a Dutch unit of Chinese firm Wingtech, which has forced several automakers to cut output in recent months.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi is lifting its 2026 electric vehicle delivery target to 550,000 units, up 34 per cent from last year's 410,000 sales, reports Caixin.
Founder Lei Jun said the goal reflects confidence in the brand's expansion despite competition and safety concerns following a fatal crash involving a Xiaomi sedan with its autopilot engaged.
Xiaomi, best known for smartphones and consumer electronics, entered the EV sector in 2021 with a US$10 billion investment and has since become one of China's fastest-growing carmakers.
