Lufthansa Cargo reported a diverse range of special shipments in 2025, from aircraft engines and high-tech machinery to endangered species and human tissue, underscoring its role in complex global logistics, reports London's Air Cargo Week.
The carrier moved more than 1,000 aircraft engines worldwide, requiring precise planning and specialised equipment. Semiconductor manufacturing machines and a rare BMW classic car were also transported under strict monitoring and handling rules.
Animal transport featured prominently, with 3,500 horses, 12,000 pets, 80 million ornamental fish and 200 zoo animals moved safely. Conservation efforts included returning critically endangered Vietnamese crocodile-tailed lizards to their native habitat and deploying trained sniffer dogs to South Africa to aid anti-poaching units.
In the medical segment, Lufthansa Cargo worked with the Lions World Vision Institute to deliver around 10,000 corneal tissue transplants, restoring sight for patients worldwide. These shipments were treated as time-critical cargo with priority handling and live tracking.
The company said the breadth of its 2025 operations reflects its mission to support global supply chains with speed, quality and safety. It plans to continue investing in infrastructure and expertise to meet increasingly complex logistics demands.
