Texas will prohibit state employees from using hardware and software from Shein, Alibaba and TP-Link, reports Reuters.

Governor Greg Abbott said the move was aimed at protecting the privacy of Texans from the Chinese government.

The ban also covers online commerce platform Temu and battery manufacturer CATL, according to the governor's statement. Mr Abbott has been a supporter of the Trump administration, which has sought to limit actions that could heighten tensions with Beijing.

The restrictions extend to Chinese drone maker Autel and artificial intelligence firm iFlyTek. The announcement comes after the United States and China reached a detente in their long-running trade and technology dispute in October.
