Air freight demand rises on project schedules

Heavy-lift air freight volumes are expected to grow as shippers prioritise certainty over cost amid global trade disruptions, reported New York's Journal of Commerce.
Dan Morgan-Evans of Air Charter Service said projects often begin and end with air freight to meet deadlines, balancing higher costs against penalties for late delivery by sea. He noted falling charter prices are making air freight more competitive.
Trans Global Projects launched a dedicated air freight department in Bremen on January 5, reactivating its International Air Transport Association licence. Managing director Andreas Menzel said the move was strategic as customers seek urgent solutions amid interruptions such as the Suez Canal crisis.
Bremen will serve as a hub for time-critical shipments, supported by Natco's air freight expertise and TGP's global resources. Menzel said sectors such as power, oil and gas, mining and renewables are driving demand, particularly close to project completion dates.
Morgan-Evans said lower charter costs are reviving opportunities after years of high prices kept volumes below pre-COVID levels. He pointed to growing flows from China into Africa, South America and Europe for construction, oil and gas and mining projects.
While uncertainty remains, ACS is handling multiple inquiries for project cargo. Menzel added that adapting to political and trade changes is essential, but both companies expect 2026 to be a strong year for air freight demand.
