Tunisian carrier Cargo Wings Express has leased two Boeing 737-300 freighters from Bulgaria's Cargo Air as it prepares to begin operations, reports London's Air Cargo News.
The passenger-to-freighter aircraft, aged 38 and 39 years, are currently parked ahead of active service later this year. The airline will be based at Tunis-Carthage International Airport and plans to operate scheduled and charter flights for general and specialised cargo.
Cargo Wings Express has partnered with Simaero for pilot training, focusing on Boeing 737 Classic type ratings and instructor development. Initial routes are expected to concentrate on Africa before expanding to other regions.
The company employs between 51 and 200 staff, according to LinkedIn. Tunisia's cargo market already includes Tunisair Cargo and Express Air Cargo, the latter operating three 737-300 freighters on services in Africa and Europe since 2015.
Cargo Air, which leased the aircraft, also operates for DHL and UPS and provides global charter services for dangerous goods, special cargo and outsized loads.
