Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers has signed a joint venture in Dammam with Saudi Ports Services & Storage Co. to establish its first integrated supply chain hub in Saudi Arabia, reports London's Logistics Manager.
The move marks a key expansion of the carrier's end-to-end logistics strategy for the Middle East. It is located in Dammam's core port zone to leverage trade corridors linking Asia, Africa and Europe. When its second phase is complete, the facility will cover 100,000 square metres and provide support for multi-purpose vessels, semi-submersibles and car carriers.
Cosco said the project introduces a "ship-port-yard" model aimed at eliminating bottlenecks in the supply chain. Features include last-mile efficiency, asset synergy with Cosco's fleet for oversized cargo, and a 140,000-TEU yard connected to Saudi Arabia's rail network for rapid inland distribution.
The venture supports Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to position the Kingdom as a global logistics hub. Cosco said it is shifting from a transport service provider to a supply chain partner, strengthening its presence in West Asia.
The company added that the Dammam hub will serve as a key link in its global shipping network, promoting balanced trade flows. Cosco plans to further optimise fleet deployment in the region, reinforcing Dammam's role as a gateway for China-Saudi economic collaboration.
