The Directorate General of Shipping in Mumbai has recognised TS Rahaman for launching the fourth batch of the Women in Rating Programme, reported Singapore's Maritime Fairtrade.

The initiative, started two years ago with major shipping companies, aims to empower young women from rural India to pursue careers at sea. More than 80 women have entered the maritime sector through outreach, training and industry collaboration.

Scholarships worth INR7.2 million (US$79,409.73) have been awarded to deserving candidates, helping them pursue opportunities in a traditionally male-dominated field.

The Directorate General of Shipping expressed gratitude to TS Rahaman, shipping companies, unions and families for their support in promoting gender inclusivity across the maritime industry.
