The Port of Singapore reported record vessel arrivals, container throughput and bunker sales in 2025 despite global trade disruption, reports London's Riviera Maritime Media.
Vessel arrivals reached 3.2 billion gross tonnage, up 3.5 per cent from 2024, while container throughput rose 8.6 per cent to 44.7 million TEU. The port remains the world's largest transshipment hub.
Marine bunker sales climbed 3.4 per cent to 56.8 million tonnes. Conventional fuels accounted for 97 per cent of sales, but biofuels, LNG and methanol saw sharp increases, reflecting the rise of dual-fuel ships and efforts to cut emissions.
Alternative fuel sales reached 1.9 million tonnes, up from 1.3 million tonnes in 2024. Biofuel sales rose 56.2 per cent to 1.4 million tonnes, LNG 23.9 per cent to 571,000 tonnes and methanol 87.5 per cent to 3,000 tonnes. No ammonia sales were recorded, though ships equipped with ammonia dual-fuel engines are expected to enter service this year.
Senior Minister of State for Law and Transport Murali Pillai announced the port's performance at the Singapore Maritime Foundation New Year Conversations event on January 13.
