Global air freight is undergoing major shifts, with Chapman Freeborn relying on its adaptable business model and expertise to navigate volatility, reports Singapore's Payload Asia.

Demand for e-commerce uplift from Asia to the US peaked in late 2024 but has since declined, while nearshoring in industries such as automotive has reduced charter demand. Chapman Freeborn said its 53-year track record of evolution provides resilience in uncertain conditions.

The company's cargo model is built on ad hoc and recurring charters, later expanded to include part-charters, priority freight and bespoke services such as door-to-door pickup. Through acquisitions, it added specialist brands including Magma Aviation, Intradco Global and Arcus Aviation.

Chapman Freeborn supports diverse sectors. Defence demand has risen due to geopolitical shifts, aerospace remains stable with just-in-time manufacturing, and energy continues steady with urgent transport needs for critical components. Automotive demand has dropped, though the company remains ready to support nearshoring with narrowbody and widebody aircraft.

Talent and training underpin the model. New staff receive aviation fundamentals before specialising in areas such as hazardous materials and ITAR compliance. TSA procedures are maintained, and employees are trained in client-centricity and risk mitigation.

The company has strengthened its regional presence with personnel in the US, Canada, Mexico and Brazil, enabling local expertise. Chapman Freeborn said this ensures rapid response and tailored solutions for customers.

Freight forwarders rely on the company for urgent and specialist cargo. Chapman Freeborn provides operational support and advisory insights during market shifts, emphasising flexibility and client focus as key to delivering rapid solutions.
