The US government will permit Nvidia to export its H200 artificial intelligence chips to China, reported Reuters, with President Donald Trump announcing a 25 per cent fee on each chip in addition to the 15 per cent levy proposed in August.

The move comes amid debate in Washington over whether Nvidia and other US firms should sell advanced chips to China to maintain their global lead or restrict exports to safeguard national interests. Beijing has instructed companies not to use US technology, raising uncertainty about whether the decision will generate new sales.

Trump did not specify how many H200 chips would be cleared for shipment or what conditions would apply. He said only that exports would proceed under terms that ensure continued strong national security.
