    New York-NJ lifts 5 million laden TEU in 2025

    The Port of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) moved 5.01 million loaded TEU between January and October, making it the nation's second-busiest cargo gateway, reported London's Port Technology International.


    Cargo flows remained steady in October with total volume rising 3.2 per cent to 727,059 TEU, compared with 704,367 TEU a year earlier. Year-to-date totals reached 7.51 million TEU.

    Exports surged in October to 126,644 TEU, a 44.9 per cent increase from 87,407 TEU in October 2024. From January through October, exports climbed 8.1 per cent to 1.21 million TEU.

    Imports fell slightly in October, down 3.1 per cent to 368,439 TEU compared with 380,289 TEU last year. However, year-to-date imports rose 1.7 per cent to 3.80 million TEU.

    Export empties dropped 2.5 per cent in October to 229,638 TEU, but year-to-date totals rose 3 per cent to 2.48 million TEU. Import empties declined 23.1 per cent over the same period.

    Rail volume continued its gains, rising for a ninth consecutive month. October's total of 57,272 containers marked a 22.9 per cent increase year-on-year, with year-to-date rail traffic up 13.2 per cent.

    In comparison, PortMiami handled 1.11 million TEU in Fiscal Year 2025, up from 1.08 million TEU in the prior year.
