Japan's Canon has closed one of its major printer production facilities in mainland China, highlighting the growing strength of domestic brands in the country's printing market, reported Hong Kong's South China Morning Post.

The plant in Zhongshan city, Guangdong, specialised in manufacturing laser printers and ceased operations on 21 November. Local media said the company attributed the shutdown to a shrinking market and intensifying competition from rising Chinese brands.

Canon's skilled workforce has already drawn interest from recruiters. Electronics manufacturers distributed fliers outside the factory gates seeking to hire experienced staff who suddenly became available.
