Philippine airlines said operations were back to normal after completing urgent software updates on Airbus A320 planes that disrupted thousands of flights worldwide over the weekend, reported the Manila Times.
The issue affected about 14,000 passengers in the Philippines, mostly on domestic routes, with 82 flights cancelled and 75 aircraft grounded.
Cebu Pacific said it had successfully completed the mandatory update across its A320 and A321 fleet, restoring normal operations. The airline thanked passengers for their patience and acknowledged airport authorities and government partners for their support.
Philippine Airlines confirmed all aircraft covered by the Airbus and European Union Aviation Safety Agency directive had been upgraded. Technical teams worked swiftly to ensure compliance and safety, and the carrier said it was now working to normalise schedules.
Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said AirAsia Philippines had also complied with the directive, allowing full resumption of flights.
Airbus had warned of disruptions after requesting upgrades to about 6,000 A320 aircraft globally, citing risks that solar radiation could corrupt flight control data.
