PortMiami reported record results for Fiscal Year 2025, welcoming 8.56 million cruise passengers and handling 1.12 million TEU, marking its highest passenger count and 11th consecutive year above one million TEUs, reports the American Journal of Transportation.
Cruise passenger traffic rose 4.02 per cent from the previous year to 8,564,225, the highest in the port's history. Cargo volumes increased 2.35 per cent to 1,115,058 TEUs, up from 1,089,443 TEUs in Fiscal Year 2024.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said the dual achievements underline PortMiami's role as a cruise and cargo powerhouse contributing billions to the local economy. She cited strategic investments in infrastructure and technology as key to long-term competitiveness.
PortMiami director and CEO Hydi Webb said the record performance reflects the dedication of staff and strong partnerships with cruise lines, cargo carriers and the business community. She added the port will continue expanding and modernising facilities to support economic growth and strengthen its global gateway position.
The 2025-2026 cruise season will feature new ships including Cunard's Queen Elizabeth and Virgin Voyages' Brilliant Lady in October, Holland America's Zuiderdam and Oceania Cruises' Allura in November, MSC Cruises' Grandiosa in December, Windstar Cruises' Star Seeker in January, Holland America's Eurodam in February, Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Luna in March and Silversea Cruises' Silver Nova in May.
Cargo growth highlights infrastructure upgrades such as completion of phase two of the Electric Rubber-Tired Gantry Crane project, bringing the total to 18 cranes at the South Florida Container Terminal. Work also continues at the Seaboard Marine yard on drainage improvements and berth rehabilitation.
