The Port of Oakland moved 174,239 TEU in November, down 4.1 per cent year on year and 4.7 per cent from October, as seasonal slowing and global shipping adjustments weighed on throughput, reports the American Journal of Transportation.
Export volumes provided support, with loaded exports rising to 68,824 TEU, up 3.3 per cent year on year and four per cent from October. Imports fell to 73,092 TEU, down 9.3 per cent year on year and 11.1 per cent month on month, reflecting softer demand.
"Export strength continues to be a key driver for Oakland," said maritime director Bryan Brandes. He added that exporters were moving goods consistently and terminal efficiency was sustaining balanced flows.
Combined loaded volumes reached 141,915 TEU, down 3.6 per cent year on year but steady against October. Empty containers fell to 32,324 TEU, down 6.4 per cent year on year and 6.3 per cent month on month, largely due to carrier equipment repositioning.
Vessel calls numbered 76 in November, down 8.4 per cent year on year and 11.6 per cent from October. Carriers continued to consolidate services and deploy larger ships, lifting average cargo per vessel and maintaining overall throughput.
The port's November performance showed resilience, with export growth and operational efficiency helping sustain cargo flows despite shifting market conditions.
