Norwegian tonnage provider MPC Container Ships (MPCC) has ordered six 3,700-TEU vessels from China's Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering, reports Rotterdam's Off-Shore Energy.

The ships will be prepared for alternative fuels and advanced emissions-reduction technologies. First delivery is expected in the second half of 2028, with each vessel operating under a 10-year charter to a top five liner company.

MPCC said the US$292.5 million investment is expected to generate about $479 million in revenue and $288 million in EBITDA. Financing will be through a mix of equity and debt.

The company also announced a 50/50 joint venture with Uthalden to own two 4,500-TEU newbuildings currently held by MPCC. The vessels will be chartered to a top five liner company, with the joint venture financing most of the purchase price through moderate leverage.

As part of its fleet modernisation, MPCC is selling the AS Clementina, a vessel nearing its 20-year class renewal in 2026, for $24 million. Handover is expected after the current charter ends in the second quarter of 2026.

Chief executive Constantin Baack said 2025 has been transformational for MPCC, with 17 newbuildings now on order for delivery from 2026 onwards. He added the contracted backlog exceeds $2 billion, strengthening partnerships and positioning the company for sustainable growth.
