Swissport has boosted throughput at its new Milan Malpensa Airport cargo facility from nine tonnes per day to 100 tonnes in just five months, reports London's Air Cargo News.

The operation, launched in June, is housed in a refurbished 4,000-square metre warehouse within the World Trade Centre complex. Initially focused on import handling, pre-customs clearance and express distribution, the site is now preparing to expand into export flows and general cargo services.

Marina Bottelli, Swissport's country manager, said the rapid scale-up demonstrates the company's ability to deploy harmonised global standards, advanced processes and high-performing teams. She described Malpensa as a critical cargo gateway for Italy and Europe.

Swissport said the milestone reinforces its long-term strategy in Italy, where it is pursuing growth across cargo handling, ground operations and lounge hospitality. The company also operates at Milan Linate Airport, providing ground services including check-in, boarding, Lost & Found and VIP lounges since October 2022.
