Silk Way West Airlines has ordered two more Airbus A350F freighters, raising its total commitment to four aircraft, reports the American Journal of Transportation. The deal underscores the carrier's strategy of modernising its fleet and pursuing sustainable growth.
The airline first partnered with Airbus on the A350F programme in June 2022, becoming the initial operator in Central Asia and the CIS region to order the model.
Wolfgang Meier, president of Silk Way West Airlines, said the expanded order reflects confidence in sustainable air freight and will strengthen the company's global market position while reducing its carbon footprint.
Airbus executive Benoit de Saint-Exupery described the repeat order as a vote of confidence, noting the A350F will support Azerbaijan's role as a major cargo hub along the Silk Road.
The A350F features the largest main deck cargo door in the sector and uses advanced materials for a lighter take-off weight. It is the only freighter designed to fully meet new International Civil Aviation Organization CO2 standards taking effect in 2027.
The aircraft can carry up to 111 tonnes over 8,700 kilometres and is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, cutting fuel use and emissions by as much as 40 per cent compared with older models.
Silk Way West Airlines said the milestone supports its mission to build a greener, more connected logistics network while reinforcing Azerbaijan's position between East and West.
