Hong Kong Air Cargo has become the seventh new cargo airline to begin operations at East Midlands Airport in 2025, reports London's Air Cargo News. Its first charter flight using an A330-200 freighter landed on 18 November.

The airline is initially running a series of charter flights between Hong Kong and East Midlands, adding to its growing European footprint. HKAC already operates services to Glasgow Prestwick, Birmingham and London Stansted.

HKAC's fleet includes five A330-200Fs leased from Hong Kong Airlines and one converted A330-300P2F on ACMI lease.

The carrier joins Central Airlines, Atlas Air, Ethiopian Cargo, Saudia Cargo, Etihad Cargo and SF Express as recent entrants to East Midlands Airport.

Cargo volumes at EMA rose 11.4 per cent year-on-year between May and October, following the launch of its cargo growth plans. Expansion includes 50 hectares of runway-side plots earmarked for future developments.

Ground handler Swissport and FedEx have also moved into larger facilities, while more widebody aircraft stands have been added to meet demand.

EMA commercial director Adam Andrews said the airport's cargo operations have seen unprecedented growth and welcomed HKAC's role in strengthening China-UK trade links.

HKAC chairman Tony Ma said the service demonstrates the airline's commitment to tailored freight solutions and praised the airport's support and facilities.
