Hamburg's Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) posted double-digit revenue and profit growth in the first nine months of 2025, overcoming macroeconomic and geopolitical challenges, the company announced.

Group revenue rose 12.5 per cent to EUR1.33 billion (US$1,54 billion) from EUR1.18 billion a year earlier. Operating profit climbed 25.7 per cent to EUR117.1 million, lifting the EBIT margin to 8.8 per cent. Net profit after tax and minority interests increased to EUR34.9 million from EUR23.1 million.

CEO Jeroen Eijsink said HHLA had boosted throughput and transport volumes despite difficult conditions. He pledged to continue positioning the company for growth and reliability in the industry.

The Port Logistics subgroup reported revenue up 12.8 per cent to EUR1.3 billion, with EBIT rising 31.7 per cent to EUR107.4 million. Container throughput grew 6.7 per cent to 4.8 million TEU, driven by strong volumes from China, South America and Africa, as well as European ports adjusting routes due to Red Sea conflict.

International terminals saw throughput jump 23.1 per cent to 250,000 TEU, aided by resumed operations in Odessa and growth in Italy. Segment revenue rose 11 per cent to EUR641.8 million, with EBIT up 18.3 per cent to EUR60.4 million.

Intermodal transport volumes increased 13.6 per cent to 1.5 million TEU, with rail traffic up 13.7 per cent and road transport up 13.2 per cent. Segment revenue advanced 15.8 per cent to EUR604.1 million, while EBIT rose 21.5 per cent to EUR76.2 million.

Real estate revenue edged up 1.5 per cent to EUR34.8 million, but EBIT fell 16.9 per cent to EUR9.5 million due to one-off expenses.

HHLA adjusted its full-year forecast, now expecting group EBIT of EUR160-175 million, down from EUR195-215 million, citing global uncertainties and supply chain disruptions. Revenue is still forecast to rise strongly year on year.
