    Wind farm plans raise aviation radar concerns

    Concerns have been raised over the impact of a proposed offshore wind farm on aviation radar systems, following a public consultation on Orsted's Mooir Vannin project to build 87 turbines off the coast of Maughold, Isle of Man, reported BBC News.


    The government received 447 responses, with supporters highlighting progress towards net zero and economic benefits, while critics warned of navigational and visual impacts.

    The UK Ministry of Defence objected, saying the project would significantly affect the operation of air traffic control radar at British Aerospace Warton in Lancashire.

    Douglas City Council backed the scheme, citing job creation and economic gains, provided sea routes remain protected. Garff and Ramsey Commissioners opposed it, citing visual, environmental and fishing concerns.

    Environmental groups including Manx Wildlife Trust, Manx BirdLife and Manx Nature Alliance supported renewable energy goals but warned of risks to species and habitats.
