Liege Airport has confirmed its cargo operations resumed quickly following last week's national strike in Belgium, reported London's Air Cargo News.

The three-day strike began on November 24, with the biggest impact felt on Wednesday when airport workers joined the action. Brussels Airport cancelled all outbound flights and more than 100 of 200 inbound services, while Liege halted all cargo operations.

Liege said flights resumed smoothly on Thursday, during what is a peak period for cargo. Consultant Rotate noted carriers had planned ahead and swiftly adjusted schedules to minimise disruption.

Freighter capacity at Liege was down about 40 per cent, equal to 1,300 tonnes or 13 Boeing 777 freighters, compared with a week earlier. Schiphol saw a 6 per cent increase, or 700 tonnes, while Maastricht rose 105 per cent, or 367 tonnes.

Brussels Airport also recorded more freighter flights, though bellyhold operations were heavily affected. Rotate said the biggest shifts were on flights from Asia and the Middle East, with Schiphol and Maastricht serving as logical alternatives.
