HAROPA Port has obtained EUR6 million (US$6.9 million) in AFIF funding to expand shoreside power infrastructure for both maritime and inland operations, reported London's Port Technology International.

The HAROPA Port OPS project will deliver grid connections for container vessels and inland freight, allowing ships to shut down engines while berthed. This is expected to cut CO2 and particulate emissions, reduce noise, and improve air quality around port areas.

The initiative is forecast to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 7,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually. It spans the full Seine axis, aiming to create one of Europe's most advanced low-carbon transport corridors.

Scope includes shoreside power for containerships in Le Havre, 12 wintering points for inland cruise vessels in Rouen, five connections for inland freight ships in Rouen, and 17 points for passenger boats in Paris.

CEO Benoit Rochet said the investment reinforces HAROPA Port's 2030 energy transition goals by offering shoreside power to all freight and passenger vessels along the Seine corridor. The programme complements the Borne&Eau electrification network across inland quays from Le Havre to Paris.

Building on 13 initial installations, the Seine axis will host 110 connection points by 2026, backed by EUR9.24 million. At the 2025 North Bund Forum, stakeholders also announced a joint green shipping corridor linking Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in China with HAROPA Port in France.
