China Airlines has confirmed it will expand its order for Boeing 777-8F aircraft by four units, while also purchasing four 777Fs, reports London's Air Cargo News.
The move doubles its commitment to the 777-8F programme as part of a fleet renewal strategy. e airline said the new order is in addition to its initial purchase of four 777-8Fs in May, bringing the total to eight. Boeing had earlier noted options for four more of the model. The order supports Boeing's freighter programme, which trails Airbus' A350F in overall commitments.
Including the latest deal, Boeing has recorded 63 orders for the 777-8F compared with 82 firm orders for the A350F. Korean Air placed the most recent order in August for eight of the Boeing aircraft.
China Airlines said it would also acquire four 777Fs. At the same time, the carrier plans to sell four of its older 747-400 freighters, with two units already agreed for sale to Cargolux and two still under negotiation.
China Airlines' freighter fleet currently includes eight 747-400Fs and 10 777Fs. The company said the latest orders reflect its strategy to modernise operations with more efficient aircraft.
