Italy has given conditional approval to JD.com's takeover of German electronics retailer Ceconomy, according to a parliamentary document, reported Reuters. The government used its "golden power" legislation, which allows Rome to block or impose conditions on deals affecting strategic assets.

The US$2.5 billion transaction will see MediaMarkt and Saturn brands in Italy, operated through MediaWorld, change ownership under the Chinese e-commerce group.

The document said the cabinet imposed unspecified "prescriptions" on November 24 to clear the deal. Officials did not disclose details of the conditions attached.

JD.com, a rival of Alibaba and Amazon, has been accelerating its international expansion in recent years, with the Ceconomy acquisition marking a significant step in its global push.
