Japan's Port of Kawasaki throughput was up 21pc in July

The Port of Kawasaki in Japan handled 7,358 TEU of foreign-trade containers in July, marking a 20.9 per cent increase year-on-year, according to the Kawasaki City Government�� Port and Harbor Bureau, reported London's Port Technology.
Total container throughput, including domestic cargo, reached 9,171 TEU, up 23.3 per cent. Exports accounted for 3,744 TEU, rising 37.6 per cent, with 798 TEU of loaded containers up 7.4 per cent and 2,946 TEU of empties up 48.9 per cent.
Imports stood at 3,614 TEU, up 7.4 per cent, comprising 3,599 TEU of loaded boxes up 7.2 per cent and 9 TEU of empties. Domestic containers totalled 1,813 TEU, a 34 per cent increase.
In the first seven months, Kawasaki processed 50,188 TEU of foreign-trade containers, up 1.8 per cent. Including domestic cargo, throughput reached 65,102 TEU, up 6.7 per cent.
Exports over the period came to 24,103 TEU, up 4.8 per cent, though loaded boxes fell 9.3 per cent to 4,544 TEU. Empty exports rose 8.7 per cent to 19,559 TEU. Imports totalled 26,085 TEU, down 0.9 per cent, with loaded boxes down 1.4 per cent to 25,631 TEU and empties up 38 per cent to 454 TEU.
Domestic containers for the seven months reached 14,914 TEU, up 27.7 per cent. Meanwhile, Daimler Truck AG, HHLA and Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore a cost-effective supply chain for green liquid hydrogen via Hamburg to the European hinterland.
