Huawei Technologies has launched two new smart-vehicle brands, Qijing and Yijing, in partnership with Guangzhou Automobile Group and Dongfeng Motor Group, broadening its automotive strategy under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility and Huawei Qiankun ecosystems, reports Caixin.

The announcement came just before the November 20 opening of the Guangzhou Auto Show and marked a deeper expansion of Huawei's role in co-developing vehicles, despite its public insistence that it does not make cars itself.

Huawei's auto business began in 2019 with its Intelligent Automotive Solution Business Unit, aiming to become a key supplier of smart components in the electric vehicle era.

A parallel effort emerged in 2021 when Huawei, facing US sanctions, partnered with Seres Group Inc to launch the Aito brand, a model in which Huawei led product definition and marketing.

By late 2023, Huawei had established the Harmony Intelligent Mobility alliance, now including five partner carmakers. These brands, known as the Five Jie due to the shared character in their names, all use Huawei's smart cockpit and driver-assist systems, making the alliance Huawei's largest auto client.
