CMA CGM has added the LNG-powered 8,000-TEU CMA CGM Syracuse to its French-flagged fleet for transpacific service between Asia and the US West Coast, reports Saint Petersburg's PortNews.
Built in 2025, the 272-metre-long vessel is currently operating in East Asia and is expected to join CMA CGM's Pearl River Express loop, linking Haiphong, Xiamen, Nansha, Yantian and Los Angeles with transit times of 14 to 28 days.
The Syracuse is part of CMA CGM's new class of 8,000-TEU, dual-fuel ships using LNG. The company aims to operate at least 162 dual-fuel vessels powered by LNG or methanol by 2029.
The addition supports CMA CGM's decarbonisation strategy and expansion of transpacific capacity. The group continues to invest in low-emission technologies and alternative fuels.
Headquartered in Marseille, CMA CGM operates one of the world's largest container fleets, with about 650 vessels serving over 160 countries. In 2024, it reported annual revenue of US$55.5 billion.
The company is also active in terminal operations and air cargo logistics, and has LNG bunkering joint ventures, including a partnership with TotalEnergies in Rotterdam.
