Fly Meta, Air Atlanta and Hungary Airlines have partnered to operate two converted Boeing 777-300ERSF freighters under wet lease, establishing a Budapest-based cargo bridge to Asia, reported London's Air Cargo News.
The aircraft will be operated by Air Atlanta and leased to Hungary Airlines, serving routes to Mainland China and Hong Kong. The first aircraft is expected in November, with the second joining in the first half of 2026.
Fly Meta is leasing four B777-300ERSFs from AerCap. The aircraft are converted by IAI, which received US Federal Aviation Administration certification for the programme in August.
Hungary Airlines, which received its air operator certificate at the end of 2024, claims to be the only widebody freighter operator in Central and Eastern Europe.
Air Atlanta and Fly Meta have collaborated since 2023 on Boeing 747-400F operations between China and Europe. The new tie-up expands their reach and adds Hungary Airlines to the mix.
Air Atlanta chief executive Baldvin Hermannsson said the partnership would uphold high standards of safety and efficiency, supporting the growth of a new cargo hub in the region.
The 777-300ERSF, known as "The Big Twin", offers 100 tonne capacity and was jointly developed by AerCap and IAI. The first two aircraft were delivered to Kalitta Air in September and have entered commercial service.
