Singapore has emerged as one of the world's top air cargo hubs, leveraging its strategic location and innovation ecosystem to drive growth in high-value and time-sensitive freight, reports Mumbai's STAT Trade Times.
According to the DHL Global Connectedness Report 2024, Singapore ranked as the most globalised country worldwide. At the centre of its logistics success is Changi Airport, which handled 516,000 tonnes of air freight in Q2 2025, a 6.2 per cent year-on-year increase.
Changi processed nearly two million tonnes of cargo in 2024, driven by strong demand in electronics, pharmaceuticals and cross-border e-commerce. From January to August 2025, the airport moved 1.35 million tonnes, up 53,000 tonnes from the same period in 2024.
Lim Ching Kiat, vice president for Air Hub & Cargo Development at Changi Airport, said the airport recorded 15 per cent year-on-year growth in international air cargo throughput in 2024, making it the ninth-largest global hub by tonnage.
Singapore's location at the intersection of major East-West and North-South trade routes enhances its role as a vital link between Asia Pacific and global markets. Its air cargo network spans 160 cities via nearly 100 airlines, including over 20 freighter operators.
The city-state's advanced manufacturing base and logistics infrastructure continue to support its ambitions as a future-proofed logistics powerhouse. Industry leaders say operating at Changi demands the highest standards of performance and reliability.
