The United Kingdom has imposed 90 new sanctions targeting Russian oil firms and affiliates, including Rosneft, Lukoil, and Nayara Energy Limited, in a bid to curtail energy revenues. The measures were announced by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper in Parliament on October 15, reports Saint Petersburg's PortNews.

The sanctions affect four Chinese oil terminals, 44 crude tankers, and Nayara Energy Limited, which imported around 100 million barrels of Russian oil worth over US$5 billion in 2024. The Indian firm operates a major refinery in Vadinar, Gujarat.

Seven liquefied natural gas tankers and the Beihai LNG terminal in China, which receives shipments from the Arctic LNG2 project, are also included in the restrictions. The Arctic LNG2 project was sanctioned earlier in 2024.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves, speaking at the International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings in Washington, said the new measures aim to eliminate Russian oil from global markets.

The UK government plans to ban imports of refined oil products made from Russian-origin crude processed in third countries. This follows earlier sanctions in January 2025 against Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegas.

The expanded sanctions are part of coordinated efforts with G7 partners to tighten pressure on Russia's energy sector.
