Norway's MPC Container Ships (MPCC) has placed orders for two 1,600-TEU high cube container vessels with China's Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding, reports Melbourne's Baird Maritime.
The vessels are scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2027. MPCC said the US$66 million investment includes options for additional vessels, allowing for future fleet expansion based on market conditions.
Each vessel will be deployed on an eight-year time charter, with a two-year extension option, to an undisclosed global liner company. MPCC expects the charters to generate $92 million in revenue and contribute around $54 million in gross operating profit, enhancing earnings visibility and reducing risk.
The ships will feature fuel-efficient designs tailored for Northern Europe's restricted channels. A refined hull form, shallow draught and high maneuverability will support operational efficiency, while energy-saving systems will improve environmental performance.
Co-CEO Constantin Baack said the order supports MPCC's long-term fleet renewal strategy aimed at sustainable value through modernisation and optimisation.
