Global logistics provider Rhenus Group is expanding its air freight gateways in Southeast Asia to support shifting trade flows and global customers, reports the Manila Times.
The company has invested in strategic hubs in Singapore, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur to optimise cargo flows across the region and integrate with global trade lanes. The expansion follows the China+1 strategy, which has increased cargo volumes and demand for resilient and cost-effective logistics solutions.
Despite weaker external demand and policy uncertainty, Asia is expected to drive about 60 per cent of global growth in 2025 and 2026. IATA data showed Europe-Asia air freight volumes rose 12.4 per cent year-on-year in September, highlighting Southeast Asia's growing role as a key trade corridor.
Chris Bode, vice president global air freight at Rhenus Air & Ocean, said the gateways are designed with scalability and sustainability in mind, integrating smart logistics platforms, real-time tracking and low-emission transport options to provide flexibility and efficiency.
The gateways will handle diverse flows: Kuala Lumpur for inbound cargo from Europe and outbound to Oceania, Singapore for Asia and Oceania inbound and Americas outbound, and Bangkok for outbound to Europe and intra-Asia trade through multimodal connections.
Joachim Hanssen, CEO APAC, said recent global developments have made Southeast Asia increasingly important in logistics plans. He added that Rhenus is committed to enhancing resilience and operational agility in the region to position itself as a preferred partner for evolving trade needs.
Looking ahead, Rhenus plans further strategic investments in Southeast Asia and the wider Asia-Pacific region to support customers globally.
