Shares in Chinese robotaxi firms Pony.ai and WeRide fell as much as 15 per cent on their Hong Kong listing debut, amid investor concerns over profitability in a crowded market, reports London's Financial Times.

Pony.ai raised HK$6.7 billion (US$862 million) and WeRide HK$2.4 billion in secondary offerings. Both companies are backed by Uber and already trade on New York's Nasdaq.

Chinese tech firms have increasingly sought listings closer to home, fearing potential delistings under US President Donald Trump's administration.

Hong Kong has seen a surge in dealmaking as mainland firms tap local capital markets. However, unlike battery maker CATL, which rose 16 per cent on debut, the robotaxi firms struggled due to sector competition and profitability concerns.
