Saudi Arabia's Mawani reported a record export volume of 127,844 TEU in October, marking its highest annual increase and reinforcing the Kingdom's push to become a global logistics hub, reports Dubai's Middle East Economy.
The surge reflects ongoing efforts to modernise port infrastructure and improve operational efficiency under the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Vision 2030, which aim to position Saudi Arabia as a key trade bridge across three continents.
Mawani recently launched Zhonggu Logistics' CRX shipping service at Jeddah Islamic Port, linking it with ports in China, Yemen, Egypt and Jordan. The service has a capacity of up to 1,500 TEU and is expected to enhance the Kingdom's competitiveness in regional and global markets.
Jeddah Islamic Port, the largest on the Red Sea, benefits from its strategic location and 62 multipurpose berths, placing it at the centre of international trade and bolstering Saudi Arabia's maritime leadership.
Last month, Mawani and China's ZTT Group signed a land lease agreement to build a cable manufacturing facility at Ras Al-Khair Port. The SAR375 million project will span 80,000 square metres and produce 500 kilometres each of submarine and terrestrial cables, plus 12,500 kilometres of fibre optic cables annually.
The new plant supports the Kingdom's cable industry and aligns with Vision 2030 goals to strengthen Saudi Arabia's role as a global logistics hub.
