China must sustain average annual economic growth of 4.17 per cent over the next decade to meet its 2035 target of becoming a "mid-level developed country" in terms of per capita GDP, reports Caixin.

The growth requirement was outlined in a newly released official study guide tied to a proposal from the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Communist Party Central Committee.

The guide defines the metrics for the 2035 ambition, using 2020 as the baseline year when the goal was first announced.

The clarification offers a concrete benchmark for China's long-term economic planning, linking the next two five-year plans to a fixed growth trajectory amid demographic changes and global economic pressures.
