A three-day enforcement blitz along I-40 in Oklahoma led to the arrest of 130 commercial drivers, following a joint operation between US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, reported Pennsylvania's Commercial Carrier Journal.
The operation focused on CDL drivers and trucks licensed in California, with arrests made at the Beckham County Port of Entry. OCC said all arrests were carried out by Oklahoma Department of Public Safety officers.
OCC chairman Kim David said the effort aimed to remove non-compliant and dangerous drivers from Oklahoma roads, enhancing highway safety through coordinated law enforcement.
Commissioner Todd Hiett noted that Oklahoma's Ports of Entry are often the first stop for incoming commercial trucks, making them strategic points for inspections and enforcement.
Commissioner Brian Bingman cited concerns over illegal immigrants obtaining CDLs in other states, warning that language barriers could lead to accidents and pose risks to local drivers.
The OCC also referenced a new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration rule that amends licensing regulations for non-domiciled CDL holders.
