South Carolina Ports reported a 16 per cent year-on-year rise in container volumes for August, citing strong terminal performance and growing rail traffic, reported London's Port Technology International.
SC Ports moved 230,150 TEU last month, with pier container volumes reaching 126,340, a 15 per cent increase. Rail accounted for 25 per cent of total traffic, with Inland Port Greer handling 18,433 moves and Inland Port Dillon setting a record with 4,738.
Vehicle throughput also rose, with 15,566 units processed in August, up 14 per cent on the same month last year.
SC Ports chief executive Phil Padgett said the port continues to deliver efficient operations despite broader trade concerns. Mr Padgett said Charleston's deepwater port and two-way channel allow first-in calls and avoid tidal delays.
The Port of Charleston supports 11 weekly services to Asia, five direct sailings from India, and first-in calls from Europe, with the fastest transit times from Vietnam to the South Atlantic.
Mr Padgett said SC Ports' infrastructure investments and customer-first approach reinforce its role as a key cargo gateway to the Southeast market.
The port recently opened the Cosgrove Avenue extension and pedestrian bridge in North Charleston, part of its Navy Base Intermodal Facility.
