Singapore-based Pacific International Lines has named its latest 8,200-TEU LNG dual-fuel containership Kota Odyssey at the Port of Tema, marking the company's first vessel naming ceremony in Ghana, reports Rotterdam's Offshore Energy.
The newbuild is part of PIL's O Class series and will operate on the South West Africa Service, linking China, Singapore, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, and Cote d'Ivoire through a weekly direct route.
Chief executive Lars Kastrup said the ceremony reflects PIL's growing investment in Ghana, which he described as a strategic hub for West African connectivity and inland transport.
Mr Kastrup said the company remains committed to supporting Ghana's maritime ambitions and delivering sustainable logistics solutions tailored to the region's evolving trade needs.
Kota Odyssey joins sister ships Kota Oasis and Kota Ocean, which entered service earlier this year. PIL also operates four 14,000-TEU LNG vessels and has 12 more on order, including one 8,200, five 13,000, and five 9,000-TEU ships.
The new vessels will be equipped with Win-GD XDF engines featuring Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling, designed to cut methane emissions, and will be capable of using bio-methane and ammonia-based fuels.
