Vietnam SuperPort has officially commenced operations of its Off-Airport Cargo Terminal (OACT), marking a milestone in Vietnam-Singapore logistics cooperation, reported Vietnam Investment Review.
The activation ceremony was attended by senior officials from Vietnam and Singapore, including Finance Minister Nguyen Van Thang and Singapore's Minister for Manpower Tan See Leng.
The OACT is one of Vietnam's first facilities to fully integrate customs clearance, security screening, storage, ULD build-up and breakdown, and airport transport.
Strategically located in Phu Tho, the terminal connects over 20 industrial zones with key ports and airports, including Noi Bai, Haiphong and Quang Ninh, and extends to Yunnan and Kunming in China.
CEO Yap Kwong Weng said the OACT reduces airport congestion by up to 25 per cent and enhances domestic and global connectivity.
The terminal features AI and robotics developed with Google and Kyndryl to automate document verification and detect hazardous goods.
With support from Singapore's A*STAR, Vietnam SuperPort is also developing AGVs, robotic loaders and AMRs to automate warehouse operations, aiming to boost productivity by 35 per cent and cut error rates by 50 per cent.
The OACT will be fully digitized via an integrated logistics platform, allowing businesses to manage services from customs to payment through a single system.
YCH Group chairman Robert Yap said the launch reflects the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Singapore and supports ASEAN's role in global trade.
Vietnam SuperPort spans 83 hectares and is a joint venture between Singapore's YCH Group and Vietnam's T&T Group. It aims to reduce logistics costs and achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.
