Lithuania's Klaipedos Uostas has reached the milestone of 1 million standard containers handled this year, achieving the figure in early October for the first time, reported Saint Petersburg's PortNews.

In previous years, the port reached the same volume only in mid-December or just before year-end. The early achievement marks the fourth consecutive year Klaipedos Uostas has surpassed the 1 million TEU threshold.

General Director Algis Latakas said the milestone reflects the port's growing role in the container handling market. He credited coordinated operations, infrastructure investment and business-friendly conditions for the result.

The port expects to handle around 1.3 million TEU by year-end. In 2024, it processed 1,068,771 containers, and in 2023, 1,050,804.

Infrastructure upgrades, including the deepening of the navigation channel completed two years ago, have enabled the port to accommodate larger and more fully loaded vessels.

Additional improvements to navigation and planning have reduced delays during adverse weather. Since 2022, transshipment vessels have received a 100 per cent discount on tonnage dues.

Klaipedos Uostas is Lithuania's sole seaport and is managed by the state-owned Klaip?da Port Authority. It is located on the Baltic Sea and plays a key role in regional trade and logistics.
