DP World has extended its partnership with German liner Hapag-Lloyd for another decade at Brazil's Port of Santos, securing continued vessel calls at its multipurpose terminal, reported Singapore's Splash 247.
The renewed agreement builds on cooperation that began in 2014 and will keep Hapag-Lloyd's operations at Santos active into the 2030s.
The extension coincides with DP World's US$190 million terminal expansion, which will lengthen the quay to 1,290 metres and raise annual handling capacity to 1.7 million TEU by 2026.
DP World handled a record 1.25 million TEU at Santos in 2024, marking a 14 per cent year-on-year increase. The upgrade will allow the terminal to accommodate larger vessels and improve turnaround times.
Earlier this year, DP World also signed a long-term agreement with Maersk to expand container services in Brazil, part of its strategy to secure key carrier partnerships.
DP World Brazil CEO Fabio Siccherino said the renewal underscores Santos' role as a gateway for Brazilian trade and ensures the terminal can meet rising demand with improved efficiency and sustainability.
Hapag-Lloyd's senior vice president for Brazil, Luigi Ferrini, said the deal strengthens the company's commitment to the Brazilian market and enhances its global partnership with DP World.
