Container throughput at the Port of New York and New Jersey rose 5.7 per cent year-on-year in August 2025 to 835,845 TEUs, marking the port's second-busiest August ever, reported Saint Petersburg's Port News.

The year-to-date total through August reached 6,047,395 TEUs, up from 5,798,654 TEUs in the same period of 2024. Imports climbed 5.1 per cent to 416,009 TEUs, while exports rose 9.4 per cent to 127,552 TEUs.

Export empties increased 5.1 per cent to 290,356 TEUs in August. From January to August, export empties totalled 2,003,629 TEUs, a 5.4 per cent rise. Import empties declined 30.6 per cent over the same period.

Rail volume continued to grow, with 64,266 containers moved in August, up 12.6 per cent year-on-year. Rail throughput from January to August rose 12.2 per cent compared to 2024.

Auto volume edged up 0.1 per cent in August to 33,512 units, though year-to-date figures were 10.6 per cent lower than the same period last year.
