An undisclosed Asian shipbuilder has ordered Everllence propulsion systems for five 8,400 TEU containerships to be built in China. The package includes dual-fuel ME-GI main engines and 28/32DF auxiliary units, reported London's Riviera Maritime Media.
Each vessel will be fitted with an Everllence B&W 6G80ME-GI Mk 10.5 main engine featuring EGRTC, four 9L28/32DF LPSCR auxiliary engines, a PVU8000 fuel gas-supply system, TCA77 and TCT30 turbochargers, two ETB40 EGR blowers and a TCR turbocharger for each auxiliary engine.
Everllence head of two-stroke business Bjarne Foldager said the ME-GI series has become the default dual-fuel methane engine, citing its low methane emissions and suitability for the booming container newbuild market.
Mr Foldager added that the engine will support shipowners in reaching net-zero as bio- and synthetic LNG become commercially viable. The ME-GI engine has surpassed 1,000 cumulative sales, with over 400 orders from the container segment.
Everllence head of two-stroke sales Christian Ludwig said the ME-GI's installed output exceeds 25 million kW, making it a leader in the dual-fuel, two-stroke marine engine sector.
The ME-GI engine was first introduced in 2014 and is designed for slow-speed LNG dual-fuel operation.
